Connect is delighted to have been
selected by v, an independent charity
launched to champion youth
volunteering in England, to develop
and manage a national youth
volunteering portal.
v’s aim is to inspire a million more
16–25 year olds to volunteer and
enable a lasting change in the
quality, quantity and diversity of
youth volunteering. The portal will
support this by offering users a
personalised view of information on
volunteering opportunities (including
the chance to respond in real-time to
the opportunities), real-life
experiences of volunteers including
videos, blogs, and articles, online
forums, and FAQs and online advice,
all supported by a dedicated telephone
helpline. Other features will include
automated alerts by email and SMS on
volunteering opportunities based on
the user’s expressed preferences.
The establishment of v was a major
recommendation of the Russell
Commission whose aim was to develop a
new national framework for youth
action and engagement, as part of the
Government’s commitment to increase
youth volunteering. The portal itself
was a specific recommendation in the
Russell Commission report, to provide
an improved way to access and get
involved with volunteering,
particularly designed for young people. Carole Boardman, Director (Public Sector) says, “We are thrilled to be able to play a role in the important work being undertaken by v. This is a unique project in that the development of the portal and the services it offers are being driven by the needs and preferences of young people themselves, via focus groups and extensive consultation. We are working closely with v to translate these into services to which young people can relate, delivered in a way that is relevant for them, and help to inspire a new generation of young volunteers and significantly increase the numbers of 16 – 25 year olds in volunteering.” | More on We Are V |
